The Cause Behind the Symptoms

Benicar™ was created and manufactured by Daiichi Sankyo, Inc., a Japanese pharmaceutical company. The FDA approved the blood pressure medication Benicar™ in 2002. To date, doctors have written over 11 million prescriptions for the drug. The primary ingredients in the medication, olmesartan medoxomil, helps lower blood pressure by opening up the blood vessels. Other medications that used this same ingredient include Azor, Tribenzor, and Benicar HCT™.

The active ingredient has been linked to resembling the symptoms of Celiac disease. Doctors will first test a patient for Celiac, and if that is ruled out, it is possible the patient could be suffering from sprue-like enteropathy or villous atrophy. This is what causes the gastrointestinal upset, chronic diarrhea, and weight loss, among the many other side effects.

You Have Options—Call Us!

Jonesboro personal injury lawyers at Wells & Wells are in the midst of researching and investigating Benicar™ litigation cases. Because the disease was often misdiagnosed as Celiac, the issues were overlooked. That is until 2013, when the FDA issued its first warnings about the dangers of Benicar™, citing the link to causing chronic diarrhea.

To that effect, we have found that many victims have suffered from ongoing gastrointestinal issues, such as chronic diarrhea. This has eventually resulted in extensive medical care and hospitalization to treat the problem. Some of the internal damage to the organs, such as villous atrophy, may be irreparable and sadly, permanent. You have the right to take legal action—that is why we urge you to seek our guidance. We were voted “Best Lawyers in America” and possess 50 years of combined experience.
